지역화는 사회적 통합 과정으로, 지역주의는 사회적으로 구성된 지역으로 정의한다
몇 가지 층위를 가지는데
사회적 통합-지역적 정체성-지역내 국가간 협력-국가 주도의 지역통합을 regional cohesion이 증가한다고 

레벨에 따라서는 국내정치-신현실주의-신자유주의-지역주의 등으로 구분이 가능하다
신현실주의부터는 outside-in approach

아시아-파시픽의 경우는 soft regionalism
무엇보다도 경제의 영향과, 인적 교류와 채널, 네트워크의 확대 과정이 국가정책과 무관하게 이루어지고 있다고 본다

기본적으로는 안보 차원에서 regional dialogue를 파악한다
중국이 아시아에서 정확한 위치를 점하고 있지 않다고 보고, 95년까지는 양자관계에 중점을 뒀다고 파악한다

글의 스타일이 쉬워서-far from dense 접근을 돕는 부분이 있다

지역의 특이성을 낳게 한 원인이 무엇인지 질문한다 
여기에 대한 대답이 역사와 지정학

동아시아의 지역주의 추세의 배경을 역사와 지정학-사실 지정학은 이 지역의 역사를 결정지어지지만- 의 맥락에서 찾는다
중국중심의 동아시아 질서에서 출발해 식민지 시기, 발전 추구의 시기, 경제위기의 현재까지 훑어보는 가운데, 동아시아 국가들의 발전, 이를 위한 안정 희구가 동아시아 지역주의를 향해 나가게 한다고 본다 
그러니 regionness를 가능케 하는 것은 (변형된 형태의) 발전국가의 유지다 
monetary stability를 지켜주지 못한 AP의 종언을 말한다 

변화한 국제경제에서 경쟁력을 가지기 위해서는 monetary 중심의 EA regionalism 대두
-결론은 다른 곳에서도 본 것 같으나, 여기까지 오는 길이 다르다
발전을 지속하기 위한 중국의 시도에서 자원의 문제가 대두되는 것 지적-따라서 비전통적 안보 영역 포괄

Korea and Taiwan seem to lose their characteristic as developmental states after Asian Financial Crisis by moving rapidly toward liberal states. 
Although they both long for certain development, the way to acquire it has been changed and the very fact leads their court for trade relation-related Asian-Pacific approach. Can, and will these states impede EA regionalism? 
will + with the status of USA's strategic ally in both states have rationale not only in economic relations but also in security reason.
      - trade relation with China is deepening particularly in Taiwan. the balance between China-Japan should be calculated in either country.

아시아 지역주의-동아시아나 동북아가 아님-의 특징을 제도화 없는 지역주의로 보며 동남아subregion이 아태의 superregional로 발전되는 과정으로 봄
왜? 지역주의 가능성은? 기본적으로는 중미일의 이해관계 대립이 대답-중미일 다 불확실하나 미국의 개입이 강점을 가진다고 분석

flying geese model을 필두로 한 일본 동남아 네크워크-비록 쇠퇴하고 있으나
화교 네트워크를 기반으로 한 중국 네트워크를 제시
일본-수직적, 소유권 통해 구성 vs 중국-수평적, 비공식적인 파트너십
그러나 중일 네트워크는 동남아에서 겹쳐지는 부분 존재
시장 중심으로 아시아 지역주의를 파악했을 때 완전히 원자화 되어 있지 않으나 제도화는 회피
97-98년 이후 취약성 노출-일본 경제를 중심으로 분석- 지역보다는 IMF 국제주의적 접근으로 문제 해결

the different characteristic of NA seems to be the existence of emerging superpower China. 
And Chinese seem to adhere their own definition of things rather than mechanically adapting global standard or global trend.
